  • Kiryn Haslinger Hoffman

    Vice President, Development

Kiryn Haslinger Hoffman joined NYAS in September 2008 to lead the Academy's development efforts and head up the first comprehensive fundraising campaign in the institution's 193-year history. With a scientific background and extensive experience in communications and development, she is well equipped to communicate the importance of the Academy's mission to a broader community and expand its partnerships with foundations and philanthropists.

Ms. Hoffman earned her BA in chemistry from Barnard College in 2002 and completed an MS in theoretical chemistry at New York University in 2005. In the interim she worked at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, where she assisted Nobel laureate James D. Watson in writing and editing his book, DNA: The Secret of Life, and curated an international exhibit on Watson's writing career. In addition, Ms. Hoffman has worked as a freelance science writer, publishing articles in The New York Academy of Sciences Magazine and the Academy’s eBriefings, as well as other notable science publications.

After completing her MS, Ms. Hoffman rejoined Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in a fundraising role and soon became the Director of Major Giving and Capital Campaign. She led a successful $200 million capital and endowment campaign, the most significant in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's history.
