    Director, Life Sciences

Gabrielle Rieckhof joined the Academy in March 2008 after 21 years as a bench scientist. She is currently the Director of Life Sciences and her program sponsors 35-40 seminars each year. In this role she is responsible for developing scientific content in coordination with the various life sciences Discussion Group steering committees, under the auspices of the Academy's Frontiers of Science program. She also generates alliances with outside organizations that would be interested in the programmatic content.

Gabrielle is an accomplished scientist with more than nine years of post-doctorate research experience. She has worked at all levels of the academic training process: first as a technician in David Baltimore's laboratory at the Whitehead Institute, as a technician with Alan Korman at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, and then as a graduate student with Richard Mann at Columbia University. She was later an EMBO postdoctoral fellow in Gines Morata's lab at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid in Madrid, Spain, a postdoctoral fellow in Troy Littleton's lab at MIT, and finally a senior scientist managing the laboratory of Hermann Steller at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Rockefeller University. All of these experiences resulted in peer-reviewed publications. She comes to the Academy with a diverse training that has exposed her to a large spectrum of biology, including virology, immunology, neurobiology, genetics, and developmental biology.
