    The Lyceum Society is comprised of the Academy's retired and semi-retired members. Talks cover various scientific fields.

    Peter S. Jensen, MD, is the senior editor of Toward A Diagnostic System for Child Psychopathology: Moving Beyond the DSM. This new volume applies Darwinian and evolutionary neurobiologic understanding to children's mental health problems. His talk focuses on the applications and implications of these new models for children's development and mental health.

    Dr. Jensen is President, CEO, and founder of The REACH Institute (Resources for Advancing Children's Health), a non-profit dedicated to ensuring that children and families have access to the latest scientific interventions for mental health problems. Beginning in 2009, he also serves as the Co-Chair of the Division of Child Psychiatry and Psychology at the Mayo Clinic. From 1999-2007 he was the Ruane Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University, as well as founding Director of its Center for Advancement of Children's Mental Health. From 1989-1999 he was Associate Director for Child & Adolescent Mental Disorders Research at the National Institute of Mental Health.

    An international authority on children's mental health, Dr. Jensen has published 20 books, as well as over 300 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters.

    Dr. Jensen received his BS with high honors from Brigham Young University (l974), his MD from George Washington University Medical School (l978) (Alpha Omega Alpha), and completed his post-graduate training in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco and Letterman Army Medical Center.
