In 2008, Douglas Hoerr and Peter Lindsay Schaudt joined their independent landscape design firms to form Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects, an award-winning, Chicago-based firm focusing on civic, educational, cultural, and residential work. Deeply influenced by his Midwestern roots as well as an unorthodox sabbatical in England, Hoerr expresses confidence in the intersection of design and horticulture, winning accolades for his transformative design of Michigan Avenue, City Garden at Garfield Park Conservatory, and residential gardens. Schaudt’s work, particularly at Illinois Institute of Technology and North Burnham Park, articulates the restraint of a “less is more” approach gained from his mentor Dan Kiley.
