    What Information May be Collected

    Collection of Personally Identifiable Information

    If you become an Academy member online, make an online donation, subscribe to a e-newsletter or other e-mail service, request additional information about the Academy, submit a donation online, or participate in any of the other services on the Academy Web site that require personal information, we may request your name, mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address, birth year or other personal information in order to respond to your inquiries. Also, if you make a membership payment or donation, or make any type of purchase, and elect to pay online, the Academy will collect the financial information necessary to do so. In addition, from time to time, we may request information from you through online surveys, sweepstakes or other promotions. Participation in these activities is completely voluntary; you have a choice whether or not to disclose information required to enter.

    We also from time to time may use cookies to collect information about you. We use them to help recognize you when you come back to our site, allowing us to make those return visits more pleasurable. We also use them to monitor traffic on our site.     To better serve you and to support ongoing Academy initiatives, we may release our postal mailing list to our marketing partners, other scientific, academic, publishing, professional, and other third-party organizations that may to provide you with information on products and services related to your profession, or that we otherwise believe useful or of interest to our members or other audiences. You may tell us to not share information about you in the Academy mailing lists with third parties by indicating this preference on your membership application (print or online) when you join the Academy, on your renewal form when you renew your membership (print or online), or by sending an email to us at and including your name and Academy member number for identification purposes. Your choice to opt-out of third party mailings is effective until the next annual renewal date and you must select the mailing lists opt-out option on your renewal form to keep the opt-out in effect.

    We will not, however, disclose e-mail or other personally identifying information collected through our Web site to third parties, with the exception of active Academy members and registered participants of our events. We also will not disclose financial information except as necessary to process membership or donation requests or purchases. Such information is discarded such financial information after processing. However, we may release your personal information if compelled to do so by court order or other requirement of law, or if we, in good faith, believe such release is advisable or necessary. Additionally, it is possible that in the future that the Academy is merged or otherwise sold or transferred. In that connection, your personal information may be transferred to our successor.     Visitor Control Over Information Use

    You have certain control regarding the use of your information:

    And finally, you may opt-out of receiving further information from the Academy (other than e-mails regarding events you have signed up for) by opting out wherever personally identifiable information is collected or opting out in links on our registration forms, the bottom of e-mails that we send to you, and on certain other communication methods that we use with you.

    The Academy shall do its best to honor all opt-out requests, but there may be a delay between your submitting such a request and the actual removal of your name and contact information from our mailing and other communications lists because these are generated well in advance of our actual mailings and communications.
