What is the maximum capacity of the New York Academy of Sciences?

The Kayden Auditorium can hold up to 230 people for a sit down dinner. If you choose to have a dance floor, the maximum number of people is reduced to 175 for a sit-down dinner. We can also do 300 for a standing reception in the auditorium. For those renting all of our spaces, we can accomodate up to 500.

What decorations and décor are included in the rental?

In-house décor includes floor length ivory tablecloths, white rim china, glass and silver flatware, various folding tables, Hugh Hardy custom design chairs and any other Academy owned furniture.

Are there any additional fees other than catering or room rental?

Dependent on the time and day of your event, there mey be additional building service fees. Please contact an event team member to discuss your event.

Can I use an outside caterer for my event?

The New York Academy of Sciences has an exclusive contract with Restaurant Associates. Restaurant Associates is the only cater we allow, with some exceptions. If you have a Kosher event we will allow an external Kosher caterer to provide the catering. There is a buyout fee for these events as well as Restaurant Associates still provides beverages (Kosher wine if needed) and labor. In addition, if you are holding a wedding at the Academy, Restaurant Associates will allow you to bring in a wedding cake from an external source if you choose.

Is there parking available for my guests?

There is no parking connected to The New York Academy of Sciences, however we can give you contacts for several parking garages all within 3 blocks of the building.
