Stacie Grossman Bloom, Ph.D Director, Life Science Programs
Stacie Grossman Bloom earned her Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Georgetown University in 2000, where she studied recovery of function after spinal cord injury. She did her post-doc studying synaptic proteins at the Rockefeller University, in the neurobiology laboratory of Nobel laureate Paul Greengard. During this time, she held fellowships from the National Alliance for Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD), the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH), and the Rockefeller University Women in Science program.
Stacie left the bench to become an associate editor at Nature Medicine, where she obtained a broad-based understanding of human health and disease. She was then the News and Reviews editor at the Journal of Clinical Investigation. Stacie is the primary author of eight scientific papers and over three dozen news features.
Stacie has been with the New York Academy of Sciences since November 2005. In this role, she develops scientific content for Academy programs, and generates alliances with outside organizations, foundations, and individuals to identify partners in the life sciences.
