About Academy eBriefings

Academy eBriefings enable our worldwide membership to follow our proceedings via the World Wide Web. Designed to provide busy scientists with information about our latest events in an accessible, drill-down format, they are an integral part of the Academy's activities, documenting and extending the reach of the Frontiers of Science program, the Physical Sciences and Engineering program, Academy conferences, the New York Science Alliance for Students and Postdocs, and the Sections.

All of our eBriefings include meeting reports written by professional science writers; multimedia elements including audio, video, photos, and slide shows when available; and links to related resources, including Web sites, books, scientific literature, and speaker information. Perhaps most significantly, the research agenda for many subjects is presented in the form of "Open Questions" that reflect the lines of inquiry that speakers at our events are pursuing. These questions define the cutting edge of science, and indicate areas of research that will be undertaken in the months and years to come. Both written and multimedia components within the eBriefings are fully searchable and contain tabs for easy navigation. Meeting reports can be displayed in a printer-friendly format.

The Academy also publishes preBriefings in advance of large conferences to serve as a reference for people who plan to attend, or are considering attending. Our preBriefings include a conference preview with background information and event goals, the full program, speakers' abstracts, organizer biographies, and resources for readers who wish to prepare for the event. The preBriefing is converted into an eBriefing after the conference has concluded, when a conference summary and meeting report is added, along with speaker slides, open questions, links to additional resources, and speaker contact and publications information.

Academy eBriefings are available through the NYAS Web site. You can explore our offerings in several ways:

Please also visit our President's Picks to see some recent eBriefing highlights.

In addition to covering NYAS-organized and -hosted events, the Academy also publishes eBriefings on conferences and other events through special arrangements with external organizations who wish to disseminate their own activities through the Web. In recent years, groups such as the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID), the Earth Institute at Columbia University, the Harvard Center for Neurodegeneration and Repair, the NBTC Nanobiotechnology Center, the New York Stem Cell Foundation, the Dialogue on Reverse Engineering Assessment and Methods, and the Hunter College Center for Gene Structure and Function have contracted the Academy to produce eBriefings on events they have organized. For more information on how the Academy might produce an eBriefing on your event, please contact Bill Silberg at bsilberg@nyas.org.
