Summer Science Camp

“My favorite part [of coding camp] was the first day we started to do the coding--everybody could put in their own ideas. It was really fun being on a team with all my friends and for us all to collaborate.” Marcelle,11, New York City

Summer Science Camp

“The camp provided my daughter with an opportunity to do what she loves--coding!  She was challenged by the social-impact theme of the project, she gained confidence from successfully creating an interactive game, and she further developed her leadership and team-building experience by working with her fellow coders." Judy Villeneuve, New York City

The New York Academy of Sciences is proud to offer an Intro to Coding Camp for middle school students (those entering 5th–8th grade). The camp is designed for students with no prior coding experience. They will learn to connect simple sensors to laptops and manipulate video games to react to their own movement and instructions. Campers will then work on teams to code their own Scratch-based game that they will share with the other teams during a presentation at the end of each week.

Activities

  • Learning the coding language Scratch to program their own video games
  • Solving engineering challenges and testing STEM principles
  • Meeting STEM professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Making new friends with similar interests
  • Having lots of fun!
