Welcome to the New York Academy of Sciences' new Web site. We've spent months rebuilding our site from top to bottom to serve you better. Like many new sites, it's still a work in progress —a "beta" version. So we are counting on you to test the site and tell us what you like, what might not work so well, and how we can improve things.
So what's new?
You've probably noticed that our new site looks very different from the one you were used to. Here are some highlights about what's new and why.
» View the latest content quickly
With so much going on at the Academy, we've tried to make it easier for you to get a quick read on our latest events, publications, and initiatives through a new feature box at the top of most of our pages. We'll regularly rotate new content through these feature boxes so you can click on any link and get more information instantly.
» Navigate the site more easily
We've tried to make it easier for you to find what you're looking for quickly by simplifying how we organize information. In the top navigation bar we've provided you with links to our our events, publications, initiatives, member information, and general information about the Academy.
» Get the content that interests you
Busy scientists are always seeking useful and timely information on topics of interest to them. So in addition to our new main navigation set-up, we've put all of our content into a series of topic collections that reflect what our members and other audiences tell us they do and are most interested in. These collections will evolve over time in response to the needs of our scientific audiences worldwide.
» Search more effectively
We've built a set of powerful and flexible search tools that will let you quickly find events and content of interest to you. This robust, Google-based search engine will zero in on the information you want site-wide in a flash.
» Share content with colleagues and friends
In addition to the ability to email event descriptions and content with our email tool, we've also added a share tool. This new tool allows you, with one easy click, to post the content you like to your Facebook page, your Twitter feed, or a variety of social bookmarking and blogging sites like Delicious, Stumbleupon, and more.
» Find member services at your fingertips
Our members are the heart of what we do, so we've built a new area to serve them better. In addition to providing useful summaries of benefits and easy management of member accounts and services, we'll also be featuring news about new Academy initiatives and member achievements and activities in this area. If you're a member, we're counting on you to tell us what you're up to. Not a member? Join today!
» Stream and download videos, podcasts and more, instantly
With a rich library of audio, video, animation, slide shows, and other multimedia features we have greatly enhanced the information we provide to you. And we've collected it all—including links to our new webinars—in a convenient new Media Center.
» Advance your career now
We've rebuilt the pages that serve our crucial Science Alliance communities of graduate students and postdocs to make a range of useful career-development features and tools more easily available. In addition to events and publications, we'll be providing a regularly refreshed set of job listings, coming soon.
» View the new Science & the City
We've completely rebuilt our public gateway site, Science & the City, to be more welcoming, useful, and easier to explore for the very loyal public communities that use it to find out more about cutting edge science and science events taking place in the New York metro area. We've simplified our S&C pages to focus on our three main public outreach efforts—our comprehensive calendar of scientific events in the New York area, our weekly podcasts, and our series of S&C events. Watch for our fall line-up soon!
