2007 New York City Science and Engineering Fair

The 2007 NYCSEF will be held on March 6-7, 2007, at The New York Academy of Sciences, 7 World Trade Center, NY, NY. The event will have two parts: an "EXPO: Evening Celebration of Science" will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, for all students with research projects and the top 200 research proposals. Participants will be able to display their boards, and teachers, principals, family and friends are encouraged to join in the festivities, which will include Family Science Night activities. Towards the end of the evening, the top 250 research projects will be announced as finalists, and all students will have the opportunity to visit and view these projects.
Finalists will be invited back the next day, Wednesday, March 7, 2007, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, to be judged by a panel of experts in their research fields. Judges for all stages of the competition will include scientists, university faculty members, researchers, engineers, and medical professionals appropriate for each area of student research. Tallying of judging results will be done by the independent accounting firm of Ernst and Young.
NOTE: A snow date has been set for a week later, on March 13 and 14, 2007.

2007 NYC Metro Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (JSHS) Applications deadline: December 15, 2006
Event: March 21, 2007
Students must participate in the New York City Science and Engineering Fair (NYCSEF) in March to be eligible to compete in the JSHS semi-finals event.

Science Research Training Program (SRTP)
The application deadline for the 2007 SRTP is January 31st.
Each application will be reviewed by the SRTP admissions committee, which invites selected students to appear for an interview. Interviews will take place on a rolling basis once a completed application has been received. Admissions decisions will be based on the written application and personal interview. Final decisions will be mailed by March 30th, 2007.

Guidelines
The contest is open to juniors attending public, private, or parochial high school in New York City. Applicants must submit their essay in one of three categories: Physics, Chemistry, or Physiology/Medicine.
Deadlines
Deadline for students to submit to their schools is December 1, 2006. Each local school will nominate three student essays, one from each category, to advance to the semi-final round of the competition and will submit these essays to the New York Academy of Sciences by December 15, 2006. Finalist submissions are due from the Regional Offices to the New York Academy of Sciences on March 15, 2007.
