The Science Research Training Program

A summer internship program for high school students interested in exploring science as a career.

<Prev | Next>

The Science Research Training Program (SRTP) was an eight-week summer science research internship and academic program for motivated, science-oriented students who had completed their sophomore or junior year of high school. The SRTP was designed to reinforce students' interest in science, to introduce participants to real-world scientific inquiry, and to raise awareness in careers in science.

Students worked four days per week (Monday through Thursday) at their research sites under the supervision of professional scientists. Fridays were spent at the New York Academy of Sciences participating in lectures, workshops, career discussions, and staff-facilitated small groups. In 2006, students were placed at 22 academic, medical, and governmental research sites.

The Academy managed this program and recruited volunteers to mentor SRTP student participants. Please note that as of summer 2007 this program has been suspended.
