Throughout the year, the Academy hosts local day and evening meetings organized by the Academy's "sections"—subgroups within the Academy's membership focused on a particular area (anthropology, psychology, history and philosophy of science, and environmental sciences, to name a few). Academy sections generally hold four to six meetings a year, ranging from full- and half-day symposia, to hour-long lectures, dinners and receptions, and networking events.
These groups provide an opportunity for scholars working with similar interests at a variety of New York institutions to meet at the Academy. Each section is led by a small advisory committee and is supported by dues from Academy membership.
Information presented at section meetings is disseminated in articles published in Update, the Academy's member magazine, as well as via the Academy web site and specially designed web portals (see links to latest meeting eBriefings below). For upcoming section events, see the schedule to the right. Each section's schedule of events, eBriefings on past events, steering committee contact information, and other pertinent information are assembled in channels.
In addition to events organized by the disciplinary sections, the Academy also hosts meetings under its Frontiers of Science program, its Physical Sciences and Engineering program, Science Alliance for Graduate Students and Postdocs, book events in the Readers & Writers series, and other special meetings.
