  • Science Meets Business

Boston, San Francisco, and San Diego are well known as fertile breeding grounds for startup companies in science and technology. New York, however, faces an ongoing concern that there is a shortage of the comparable cross-sector interconnectivity that is necessary for successful ventures. The New York Academy of Sciences is working to fill this gap.

Historically, the Academy has brought together key stakeholders in science, finance, and business. Our events attract not just scientific leaders, but also venture capitalists, investment bankers, business development leaders, technology transfer executives, law firms, consulting firms, and entrepreneurs. The Academy’s independence and its ability to convene groups within science make it a natural catalyst for new venture formation and entrepreneurship.

The goal of Science Meets Business is to create a forum for participants to stay connected to early-stage technology, exchange valuable information and insights, generate dealflow, and network within the community of scientists and other professionals in emerging technologies. The initiative organizes roundtable discussions focused on bridging these communities on an international scale, with a particular emphasis on the New York area financial community.

Our goal is to galvanize the fragmented communities within New York and form the foundation for the city and state to become a more efficient creator of entrepreneurs, new ventures, and innovation. New York has assets in science, finance, business, and innovation that are highly regarded in their fields. By fostering better connectivity among these assets, Science Meets Business will help to derive a higher level of economic development and new venture creation out of New York’s tremendous scientific base.
