The New York Academy of Sciences is one of the world's foremost organizers of scientific conferences. Organizations around the world have partnered with the Academy to develop events focusing on cutting-edge scientific fields or issues of interest to the local scientific community. These events tap into the Academy's global network of more than 24,000 members, including many of the world's foremost authorities on advanced research.

Academy events can be disseminated widely in a number of live and archived publishing and communications formats, including interactive webinars, the prestigious Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, and Academy eBriefings.

Examples of some recent partnerships include the following:

    London/GMEC

London’s “big three”–Imperial College, King's College, and University College London–enlisted the Academy to organize their first joint venture: a conference on the frontiers of brain imaging. This became the launching pad of southeast England's bold alliance—the Global Medical Excellence Cluster (GMEC)—which also involves Cambridge and Oxford Universities. This unprecedented meeting was so successful that the Academy was officially declared a partner of GMEC. The Academy organized a follow-up conference on biomarkers in brain disease in 2009 and will continue to develop cutting-edge events.

    China

The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academy of Engineering, and Academy of Medical Sciences, as well as the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Science & Technology have invited the New York Academy of Sciences to organize events in Shanghai and Beijing designed to enhance the competitiveness of these cities and their institutions. The Vice Mayor of Shanghai has also invited the Academy to partner on a special Science & Innovation Week in his city in 2010.

    Innovate New York

Held in partnership with the Levin Institute of the State University of New York, this event series is exploring the city’s potential to become the global leader in innovation in a number of sectors, including the life sciences, media, and entrepreneurship. The Academy is creating a dialogue among leaders in science, information technology, finance, business, and the public on strengths, opportunities, and challenges facing New York City in the new global economy. The series is moderated by Levin Institute President Garrick Utley, whose talent for stimulating lively conversation drives the discussions. Following each event, video and other content is made available online to reach audiences beyond the New York City area. See the eBriefing.
