  • Anthony Welters

    Anthony Welters is executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group, which serves more than 70 million Americans through its health and well-being companies. In 2007, Mr. Welters was also named president of UnitedHealth Group’s Public and Senior Markets Group, which includes the Ovations and AmeriChoice business units. Ovations is the largest company in the United States dedicated to meeting the health and well-being needs of people age 50 and older, providing chronic disease management services, health insurance, Medicare-managed care and related services, access to prescription and nonprescription medications, and other healthy living products. AmeriChoice is one of the country’s leading providers of services to beneficiaries of government-sponsored health care programs, and was founded by Mr. Welters in 1989. He also leads UnitedHealth Group’s presence in Washington, DC and is responsible for the company’s External Affairs.

    Mr. Welters is a member of the boards of Qwest Communications International, Inc., West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc., and C.R. Bard, Inc. He is also chairman of the Boards of the Morehouse School of Medicine and of the New York University School of Law, as well as vice chairman of the Board of New York University and a trustee of NYU Langone Medical Center. He joined the Council of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Mr. Welters is a recipient of a Horatio Alger Award, awarded to those who have overcome humble beginnings and adversity to achieve success and contribute to society, and serves on the board of that charitable organization as well.

    With his wife, Beatrice, Mr. Welters formed the An-Bryce Foundation to enhance the social and educational development of disadvantaged children. The Welters are also the 2008 recipients of the prestigious Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship.

    He earned a BA in Economics from Manhattanville College, a JD from New York University School of Law, and honed his management skills in a series of progressively responsible government positions before entering the private sector.
