The collaboration between the World Organization for Specialized Studies on Diseases of the Esophagus (OESO) and Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences began in 2010 after the 10th OESO World Conference. As with the preceding publications, this Annals issue follows a world conference of OESO; in this case, the 13th OESO World Conference on the Esophagiome, held in Monaco on August 31–September 3, 2015. Collectively, the papers presented in this Annals issue, the first of two, cover a wide range of multidisciplinary topics on esophageal function, dysfunction, and disease.
