Writing a business plan is a critical step in launching a startup. This session aims to demystify and streamline the process for scientists and provide an opportunity to acquire both the theoretical and practical skills necessary to produce a comprehensive business plan. Bala Mulloth, Senior Manager of NYU-Poly's Office of Innovation, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship, will utilize successful entrepreneurial initiatives as case studies. Attendees will learn how to create an easily comprehendible plan encompassing everything from an executive summary to complete company analysis (team, market analysis, SWOT analysis, marketing and sales strategy, financial plan, and commercialization task plan).

David Anthony, MBA

David Anthony is an experienced entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and educator. Since founding 21Ventures in 2004, the firm has provided seed, growth, and bridge capital to over 40 technology ventures across the globe focusing mainly in the cleantech arena. David Anthony sits on the board of a number of 21V portfolio companies including (partial list) Advanced Telemetry; BioPetroClean, ETV Motors, and Variable Wind Solutions. David also serves on the board of directors of publicly traded companies Axion Power International, Inc. (OTC: AXPW); Clean Power Technologies Inc. (OTC: CPWE) Solar EnerTech Corp. (OTC: ENSL), Energy Focus, Inc.(NASDAQ: EFOI) and ThermoEnergy Corporation (OTC: TMEN).
Previously, Mr. Anthony collaborated with Dartmouth College professor Dr. John K. Shank and consulted for Fortune 500 clients on capital investments, mergers and acquisitions, and entrepreneurship. In addition David is an adjunct professor at the NYU Stern School of business where he began teaching technology entrepreneurship in the Fall of 2009. David has taught Idea to IPO at The Academy since 2004.
David received his MBA from The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in 1989 and a BA in economics from George Washington University in 1982. He is an entrepreneurship mentor at the Land Center for Entrepreneurship at Columbia University Graduate School of Business. In 2002, David was awarded the Distinguished Mentor of the Year Award from Columbia University.

Jahan Ali, PhD
New York City Investment Fund
Jahan is Senior Vice President at the New York City Investment Fund and manages the Fund's investments in the health care sector, including the BioAccelerate NYC Prize competition. Prior to joining NYCIF, Jahan ran her own technology commercialization consulting business, where she worked with entrepreneurs and not for profit research and product development partnerships. Prior to that, Jahan was the Director of Technology Transfer at the Hospital for Special Surgery, where she focused on creating partnerships and licensing in the orthopedic sector. Before that, Jahan was with Mojave Therapeutics, a biotechnology company developing therapeutic vaccines, with heat shock protein delivery technology. At Mojave, she successfully identified synergistic partnership opportunities, research collaborations and competitor market research. Prior to that, Jahan was at Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Office of Industrial Liaison. Jahan has a Ph.D. from New York University School of Medicine.
Bala Mulloth
NYU-Poly's Office of Innovation, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship
Bala Mulloth is the Senior Manager of NYU-Poly's Office of Innovation, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship. He is a Digital Media enthusiast who is pursuing his Ph.D in Technology Management from NYU-Poly with a research focus on Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. Bala also teaches Data Communication and Innovation related course at the Department of Technology Management at the University.
