The Lyceum Society is comprised of the Academy's retired and semi-retired members. Talks cover various scientific fields. All Academy members are welcome.

Pain Relief or Just Belief?
Reflections on the ability of placebo effects to relieve pain, considering any influence "placebo responders" may have upon the outcome of clinical trials involving pain-relieving treatments.

Ralph Kaslick, DDS,
NYU College of Dentistry
Dr. Kaslick graduated from Columbia College in 1956, receiving his DDS from Columbia University College of Medicine. He was active for 23 years at Fairleigh Dickinson University, serving as Professor of Periodontics and Oral Medicine, Dean of the College of Dental Medicine, and Campus Provost. Dr. Kaslick is now Professor of Periodontics and Hospital Dentistry at NYU's College of Dentistry. He is also Chair of the Percy T. Phillips Visiting Professorship Program at Columbia Univeristy College of Dental Medicine.
