Leveraging the Scientific Mindset in the Entrepreneurial World

Leveraging the Scientific Mindset in the Entrepreneurial World

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

The New York Academy of Sciences

Presented By

Presented by Science Alliance and InSITE

Paul Tumpowsky, Chairman of InSITE, will discuss the challenges, risks and blessings of being an entrepreneur. The discussion will address the kinds of skills that make an entrepreneur successful and present how the scientific mindset can be leveraged to successfully navigate the business world and produce positive results.

Pallav Kosuri, Columbia graduate student and current InSITE fellow, will present his first-hand experience with InSITE. This elite program is an opportunity for some of New York's most talented graduate students to advise New York entrepreneurs in the development of their businesses, support venture investors, and gain exposure to the entrepreneurial community.

Megan McGill, MD/PhD candidate at NYU School of Medicine, will share her experience as a 2012 Fellow in the Startup Leadership Program (SLP) in New York. SLP is a highly selective, world-class training program for outstanding founders, leaders and innovators who are or want to be startup CEOs, and be connected to a global network.

Science Alliance Director Monica Kerr will round out the session by presenting local resources scientists can avail themselves of if they are interested in careers in industry, entrepreneurship, technology transfer and venture capital.

Following the discussion several current members of InSITE's student leadership, alumni of the group and Board members will be in attendance to meet and network with Science Alliance participants.

Reception to follow.
