The Lyceum Society comprises the Academy's retired and semi-retired members.
Talks cover various scientific fields. All Academy members are welcome.
All Lyceum meetings (except December) are Brown Bag lunches.

The Ergonomics of the Broadway
Speaker: Austin Schlecker
Yvonna Balfour studied at Washington University and was a laboratory research assistant at Washington University Medical School Department of Pharmacology in St. Louis. She then worked in the biochemistry department at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla and the cardiovascular department at Queen's Hospital Medical Center in Honolulu. She subsequently received a BA degree in Drama with an emphasis on Dance at the University of Hawaii and did independent dance therapy with special needs children. For the past 20 years she has worked on Broadway as a wardrobe supervisor and at present works as a head wardrobe crew member at CBS News.
Dr. Austin Schlecker graduated from Stuyvesant High School, New York University and then New York University School of Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Schlecker did an internship at Maimonides Hospital, a medical residency at Goldwater Memorial Hospital, and at Maimonides Hospital where he was also Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Schlecker also did a fellowship in Arthritis and Metabolic Disease at Maimonides Medical Center under aegis of the NIH. He has been in the private practice of Internal Medicine and affiliated at Maimonides Medical Center since 1957. He is now Emeritus Attending in Medicine and gerontology.
Dr. Austin Schlecker also served in the Military as First Lieutenant and then Captain in U.S. Army where he served on Active Duty from 1953-1955 (Korean War). Dr. Schlecker received many honors and awards including Alpha Omega Alpha: from NYU College of Medicine 1950, Teacher of the Year at Maimonides Hospital, President of Medical staff at Maimonides, Lifetime achievement award, Jack Aaron Medal, all at Maimonides.
He also received Alpha Omega Alpha Volunteer Clinical faculty award at SUNY Health Science Center Brooklyn. The Austin A. Schlecker M.D. annual scientific session at Maimonides Medical Center is named for him. Dr. Schlecker’s organizations include American College of Physicians – (ASIM), American Medical Association, and Kings County Medical Society. He is a Diplomat of American Board of Internal Medicine. He also had 6 publications between years of 1955-1961 in peer viewed medical journal.
