The Interstellar Initiative ― presented jointly by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development and the New York Academy of Sciences ― recognizes the world's most promising Early Career Investigators in the fields of cancer, regenerative medicine, and neuroscience. Individuals accepted into the Interstellar Initiative participated in a three-day workshop at the New York Academy of Sciences from March 17–19, 2017, where they were grouped within teams of two and three and asked to propose a solution to a major research question, guided by mentors who are at the peak of their respective disciplines.
The August workshop event is a two-day follow-up to this March event, designed to allow the teams to come together and further their proposals, and receive additional feedback from mentors. The ultimate goal is for these collaborative proposals to be prepared for submission to international funding agencies.
