Explore New York Session I
The New York Academy of Sciences is proud to offer Explore New York Session I, a sight-seeing STEM Program from August 6-10, 2018 for your young travelers and inventors. Over the course of five days, students in 5th-8th grades will visit and learn more about the science and engineering behind some of the most famous landmarks in New York City. Students will engage with the engineering practices which led to the architectural marvels of the past and present, as well as seeing how NYC wildlife fares in our major parks and possibly underground! By the end of the week, students will have engaged with NYC inside and out, and gain a better understanding for how science, technology, and engineering enliven the City the Never Sleeps.
Note: Explore New York is offered in two sessions. Both sessions will provide similar activities and field trips. Students can register for either session or both.
Activities include:
- Bridge building competition among students
- Walking tours of Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, and other iconic sites
- Workshops in relevant STEM fields
- And more!
Over the course of this five-day STEM Program, students will gain:
- Leadership skills through STEM design challenges
- Communication techniques that allow them to share STEM concepts with their peers
- Scientific collaboration and engineering skills
- Teamwork and problem-solving experience
Students will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.
