Enhance STEM Teaching & Learning
This course supports K–12 teachers of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through the process of developing an instructional unit for K–12 students aligned to the New York Academy of Sciences’ STEM Education Framework. Participants will explore the research behind the framework and apply it to create a unit of study designed to foster 21st-century skills in the context of STEM. Additionally, NYS educators can earn CTLE credits.
Learning Outcomes
In this course, participants will:
- Explore the benefits of equipping students with STEM skills and attributes, including essential 21st-century skills
- Demonstrate understanding of best practices in K–12 STEM instruction
- Evaluate various STEM pedagogical methods
- Develop an instructional unit that can be used in K–12 STEM classrooms
Course Format & Cost
This is a 10-week online course with an additional two weeks for instructor evaluation of final projects. It is an asynchronous course and does not have specific meeting times. Assignments and discussions change on a weekly basis. Participants are expected to complete related work during the week it is assigned. Assignment-specific deadlines will be posted in advance.
Although this course normally retails for $449 per registrant, it will be provided free of charge to a limited number of educators in Fall 2019.

New York Teachers Can Earn CTLE Credits
The New York State Department of Education requires NYS educators to meet Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) requirements to maintain their teaching certification.
The New York Academy of Sciences is an Approved Sponsor for Continuing Teaching and Leader Education (CTLE). NYS educators who successfully complete the course will earn 30 CTLEs.
