AV Technician

DEPARTMENT: Audio Visual Services

REPORTS TO: Associate Director, AV

SUMMARY:

With other members of the AV team, manage, operate, and maintain the integrated audiovisual equipment in onsite meeting rooms and spaces. Provide support when needed for meetings/events hosted at various external locations. Work collaboratively and proactively with internal and external stakeholders and event planners to understand their audio-visual needs for various meeting types. Ensure excellent service delivery based on pre-determined SLA’s. Provide support to the Systems Administrator with helpdesk tasks as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Set up, maintain, and operate the integrated and stand-alone DLP projectors/ displays, sound systems, Audio/video conferencing units, Audio/Video digital recorders and switchers, wireless microphones and PC/Mac computers.

Set up and execute Virtual/Hybrid Events via Cvent, Zoom or Webex, as well as Live Stream to YouTube, Facebook Live etc. via vMix or OBS.

Respond to requests from the AV team members, Program managers and meeting coordinators for last minute changes or meeting additions.
Assist with monthly and quarterly inventory and maintenance checks, and forecasting equipment needs.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NYAS integrated AV Systems and the commercial AV industry at large.

Assisting help desk support as needed when not working on event related activity. Provide software and hardware support at the workstation and basic network level.
Ability to effectively troubleshoot a variety of AV equipment under demanding conditions, while remaining calm and professional.
Assist in research to resolve questions or issues. Resolve user problems by performing diagnostic tests, and troubleshooting when required.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide direct end-user support to clients as an in-room technician, including presentation set up and operation. Assist with file format issues and trouble shoot media files if necessary to ensure successful client presentations.
Test media (including slides and videos) prior to event date to ensure quality of the media.

Identify and resolve operational errors (signal routing, monitoring, and quality assurance). Identify, troubleshoot, and document any issues that occur prior to or during meetings

Prepare post meeting documentation of issues encountered during the course of an event. Account for inventory before and after each event.
Assist team with proper security, storage, transportation and maintenance of equipment.
Maintain understanding of current and new technology in all areas of A/V.
Assist IT team, when possible, with the implementation of new applications, and training end users on software. Assists user community in software and hardware problem resolution.
Maintains software and hardware knowledge and expertise in order to provide skilled and current software information and support to the Academy staff.
Assist IT Systems Administrator with tasks as assigned based on a current schedule.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum High School graduate/GED. (Associates or Bachelor’s degree a plus). Certifications a plus.
Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in operating, maintaining and troubleshooting in a complex audio-visual environment.
Computer proficiency and thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and One Drive
Strong knowledge in capabilities and functionality of Zoom Meeting/Webinar and Webex
Strong working knowledge of Digital Audio Mixers, Allen and Heath SQ series, Yamaha CL TF, QL, Sound Craft Si
Knowledge of Analog Way, Barco, Blackmagic ATEM switchers, Hyper Decks is a plus.

Experience in the operation, setup and maintenance of audio, video, lighting, and electrical systems, and theatrical staging.

Strong knowledge of Crestron touch panels, Live audio mixing (digital and analog mixers), and AV routing is preferred. Webinar and/or webcasting experience preferred.
Knowledge of operation of Playback PRO or other video playback software.
The ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
Ability to work independently and or in a team-oriented
Basic knowledge of IP networking and troubleshooting required. Position will require light IT helpdesk tasks when time permits.
Must have knowledge of Windows 10 and 11, Microsoft Office 2019, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Office 365. Knowledge of Apple OS X software and hardware and Teamviewer is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction. Must be able to prioritize. Good follow-up skills are essential.
Professional experience with videography, digital photography, and editing is a plus.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The Academy operates during standard business hours Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm Eastern Time. Standard work week is 35 hours, unless otherwise noted.

The Academy offers flexible and hybrid work schedules, with in-office scheduling arranged based on team practices, event scheduling and business need.

Employees must be based in New York.

The work will be performed using standard computer equipment. Employee must be comfortable using a large suite of applications and tools including calendar, email, virtual calling and video conferencing. This is somewhat sedentary role, but many tasks require walking bending, lifting and carrying.

Additional Work Schedule/ Work Environment information:

Please note that as this position supports various events that could require support Monday- Sunday. Work hours can range from as early as 5am and as late as midnight (subject to change).

Capability to lift and transport various pieces of equipment such as speakers, lighting trees and screens up to 70lbs.

Capability to climb ladders and scaffolding

Capability to work in small cramped places

Capability to lift & move excess of 50lbs as is necessary in the normal flow of the day to day work load unassisted and lift and move 100lbs with assistance

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Salary: $30.21 - $33.00 per hour ($55,000- $60,000 annual equivalent). This is Full-time, non-exempt position.
