Manager/Associate Director of Development, Individual Giving

JOB TITLE: Manager/Associate Director of Development, Individual Giving

DEPARTMENT: Development

REPORTS TO: SVP, Advancement

SUMMARY:

Responsible for all aspects of the Academy’s individual fundraising efforts, including low- to mid-level individual gifts, annual giving, major gift strategy, and prospecting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Actively manage a portfolio of prospective individual donors across the donor life-cycle, through in-person meetings, telephone, and written contact
  • Manage relationships between NYAS program staff, President, and donors
  • Assist with the development of fundraising strategies to cultivate and solicit prospects; and suggest improvements to Academy programs
  • Oversee stewardship and engagement efforts with all current donors; work with Academy donors, members, and others to cultivate new gifts and partnerships
  • Create informative proposals and reports for donors in portfolio, plus acknowledgment letters
  • Manage the NYAS annual fund appeal
  • Work with the SVP of Advancement and Development Coordinator to design and coordinate fundraising events
  • Prepare development communications materials such as annual reports, social media posts, briefings, brochures, and other collateral
  • Develop and implement an online giving program

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the SVP of Advancement, AVP of Advancement, and Director of Development to manage other projects related to the growth of unrestricted gifts.
  • Represent the Academy and Department at meetings, conferences, and other events to advance Development’s work
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned, including the general obligations of the team
  • Participate in building a culture of collaboration, high performance, and creativity in the team and organization-wide.

None

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A high degree of integrity, drive, and persuasiveness
  • Self-starter who leads by example and measures success by results
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing, science, engineering, or equivalent. Master’s Degree preferred
  • Five years of demonstrated experience in major gift/individual giving, securing five, six, and seven-figure gifts
  • Superior writing, oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of philanthropy and trends in fundraising/individual giving
  • Strong background or demonstrated interest in science or the mission of the Academy
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or other similar donor or customer relationship databases
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software
  • Advanced skills in project management and budget
  • Ability to think creatively and to innovate
  • Excellent flexibility and adaptability skills with a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate large responsibility and multiple priorities
  • Ability to work within a team framework and interact with varying levels of leadership, donors, staff, and Academy members
  • Ability to develop strong presence in the community through effective networking, planning, and execution of fundraising strategies.

WORK SCHEDULE & ENVIRONMENT:

The Academy operates during standard business hours Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm. Standard work week is 35 hours, unless otherwise noted.

Academy employees will be offered an option to work remotely, however employees must be based in New York.

This is a largely sedentary role.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The salary range for the roles are: Manager Level: up to $70,000 annually/ Associate Director Level: Up to $90,000 annually. This is Full-time, exempt position.
