Building Our Community for the Third Century
Published November 20, 2017

Beginning in January 2018, the Academy will officially enter its Third Century. In a time when science denialism is on the rise—and funding for basic research is on the decline—the Academy’s mission to advance scientific research, education, and policy seems more urgent than ever. And we want to invite you to join us in supporting this mission by becoming a 2018 Academy Ambassador!
In 2017, our Bicentennial year, over 100 Academy Members joined us in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of STEM education, mentoring, and investment. Throughout the year, our Bicentennial Ambassadors shared information and stories about the Academy’s mission, and their own efforts to promote STEM literacy across their communities and social networks. You can see samples of some of their efforts below.
Our Ambassadors make up a committed community of active STEM students and professionals, reaching tens of thousands of people across the web, and helping spread the word about the importance of supporting STEM education and science-based policies. Their enthusiasm for the sciences is contagious!
For the launch of our Third Century, we’re inviting everyone with a passion for science and the desire to do more to join this community of science advocates by becoming an Academy Ambassador. Participating Ambassadors will have the opportunity to build their communication skills, advocate for strong support of the sciences across sectors, and inspire thousands of young people to pursue STEM careers.
