Our 14th Annual Gala: Imagine 300
Published November 09, 2017
On Monday, November 6, the New York Academy of Sciences brought together 400 supporters and Members of the World’s Smartest Network® for the culmination of our bicentennial year at the Academy’s 14th Annual Gala. Academy President and CEO, Ellis Rubinstein opened the Gala by welcoming the newest Members of the Academy’s extended family—the Honorees of the prestigious Blavatnik Regional Awards for Young Scientists—and by acknowledging the many distinguished researchers, industry and academic leaders, and Nobel Laureates in the audience.
The keynote speech was delivered by physician, engineer, author, and former NASA astronaut Dr. Mae C. Jemison, who was the first woman of color to travel to space aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor in 1992. Throughout the event and befitting the “Imagine 300” theme, a few of our Young Members (student participants from Global STEM Alliance mentoring programs) invited guests to express their thoughts on how science and technology would shape the next 100 years. Their responses were captured in a mural, showcasing the imagination of the World’s Smartest Network®.
