STEM Programs

“My favorite part [of coding camp] was the first day we started to do the coding - everybody could put in their own ideas. It was really fun being on a team with all my friends and for us all to collaborate.” Marcelle, 11, New York City

STEM Programs

“The camp provided my daughter with an opportunity to do what she loves - coding!  She was challenged by the social-impact theme of the project, she gained confidence from successfully creating an interactive game, and she further developed her leadership and team-building experience by working with her fellow coders." Judy Villeneuve, New York City

STEM Programs at the Academy

Our week-long STEM Programs take place during the day and are designed for middle school students, specifically those in grades 5 through 8. Each program is designed to engage students in hands on STEM experiences, which are guided by Academy scientists and staff. During the week, students have an opportunity to take a deep dive into STEM topics, take STEM-focused field trips, and connect with real scientists and engineers, all while making new friends!

Our STEM Programs are aligned to the New York City Public Education Department calendar and provide a safe, enriching option for working parents during school vacations.

Depending on their interests and aspirations, your children can choose from four unique topics:

Explore New York

Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge and our city's other iconic sites - you've been there before, but never like this. Learn and engage with the engineering practices that led to the architectural marvels of the past and present, understand how NYC wildlife fares in our major park, and test your STEM design skills in a bridge-building competition.

Computer Science and Urban Farming

It's coding with an agricultural twist. Learn how to write programs that can monitor garden health and activity through the use of simple sensors, check out some of our city's most innovative urban gardens, and expand your STEM skills through a range of indoor and outdoor activities.

Design and Innovation

Expand your problem-solving toolkit with EMPATHY and imagination. Identify a real-world topic you are passionate about, experience the multiple steps of design thinking, and learn how to address major challenges through creativity.

The Academy provides in-person STEM programming for students in grades 3-12 (8 - 17 years of age).
