LEEDing the Way

The New York Academy of Sciences Conference Center is located in one of the greenest buildings in New York City, 7 World Trade Center. Completed in 2006, it is one of the first commercial office buildings in New York City to receive the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, where it won a Gold rating. Download more information about the space.

The Academy also has a comprehensive program of green science events and publications exploring the latest research effecting the sustainability of our world. A wide variety of additional audio visual equipment is also available.

Make Your Meeting Green

Not only does the Academy have a green space, but we are striving everyday to make sure we can provide you with the highest quality green meetings.

Green Meeting Standards

Always looking for new ways to reduce the carbon-footprint of our events, we're establishing a set of green meeting standards. Read an outline of some of these practices below:

  • Silverware, glass and china (no plastic)
  • Water stations (water coolers with glass instead of plastic)
  • When individual bottled water is required, use bottles made from a majority of recycled materials
  • When paper or plastic service items are used, we used products made from recycled materials
  • Recycling receptacles available for recyclable garbage
  • All rooms temperature and light controlled per the event time instructions
  • Rain and refuse water recycled throughout the building including the fountain in the park in the front of 7WTC
  • Customized local and organic menus available
  • Specially tempered glass to refract the heat from the sun
  • Select green specialty beverages available (such as zero-carbon wine)
  • Green business cards given out with the Conference Center URL in lieu of brochures

The Green Experience

With our reputation for quality events, in addition to Earth-friendly facilities and practices, we've already hosted an array of green events:

  • GE Ecomagination Credit Card Launch
  • US Ambassadors Climate Change Dinner
  • US Green Building Council training session
  • British Consulate General's Climate Change Communications Meeting
  • Council on Protocol Executives — Future of Green Meetings
  • ARUP — Drivers of Change
