Amber D. Miller

Amber Miller is the 22nd dean of the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. She holds the Anna H. Bing Dean’s Chair and a faculty appointment in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. As the leader of USC’s largest non-medical enterprise, she is the chief executive responsible for an organization comprised of roughly 2000 faculty and staff organized in over 100 academic and administrative units. Dornsife’s strategic plan, developed with input from thousands of stakeholders includes: strategies for enhancing research excellence and productivity; a creative signature undergraduate initiative, new approaches in masters and doctoral education; enhanced efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion; overhauls to marketing, communications, and fundraising; and a suite of signature academic initiatives. Examples of Miller’s signature initiatives under the Academy in the Public Square umbrella include: Public Exchange — a first-of-its kind hub launched in 2020 that models a new way for universities to transform access for civic and business leaders to research expertise; and The Center for the Political Future launched in 2018 – restoring civil dialog across the political aisle. Miller served as the first Dean of Science at Columbia University until 2016. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Pacific Council on International Policy, and served as the chief science adviser to the NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau. She is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, and has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, a Lenfest Distinguished Faculty Award, and a Hubble Fellowship.
